South Georgia – A forgotten paradise

With its steep black mountains and icy peaks, its glaciers plunging down the rocky slopes to the sea, its deep fiords and immense beaches, South Georgia is the white paradise. Every Antarctic spring sees the arrival on the island of millions of sea birds and mammals. In two consecutive years, we were able to film the mythical wandering albatross, giant colonies of King, Macaroni, Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins, Antarctic fur seals and enormous southern elephant seals. On this marvellous island, where scenery and climate are a constant element of surprise, we also find the tomb of the famous British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose love for these latitudes led him to epic, miraculous adventures.
"For the scientific management, give me Scott; for a fast, effective trip, Amundsen; but when you are in a desperate situation, when it seems there is no way out, kneel and pray for Shackleton to come."
